• Boy, we had a hell of a show on Saturday night.
We took the most firepower I’ve ever used at a show
    It payed off
We had a solid sound for a quarter-mile
You could probably hear it much farther away than that
It was certainly the fullest sound I’ve heard outside of a big bar venue

Thanks to Mike and Jim for a spectacular performance

    I hope Trevor’s alive

I got to do some farm work on Sunday
The most liberating experience in recent memory
A day without Purple Wave or music
    Doesn’t happen very often
I fixed some fence, fixed a chisel, mowed some grass…with a bush hog

The music does, however, keep getting better and better
We’re in Salina on Wednesday at Martini’s
We’re back in Salina on Friday at JC’s
Then we head to Sun City for the biggest, baddest Buster’s show that town has ever seen
If you belong to the cult that’s trying to find a religous reason to shut the place down, this’ll be your opportunity.

Back to the grind. You’ll hear from me.

  • So much to say, so much…

Getting ready to jet for Sharon
Playing out at the big Larson Trail Ride tonight
Jimmy B. and Michael Kisner are coming down
Jimmy’s going to bang around and Mike’s going to complain about all the songs we play with a capo
    Just like old times

Last night we played at Bobby T’s
    Opened for Voodoo Kitchin
Great band with an SRV guitarist, cool bassist, and the prettiest drummer I’ve ever seen

Thanks, Jason, for “forgetting” to write down all the white Russians that T-Bob and I had.

Wednesday at Martini’s saw us bullshitting with Jamie from the Batchelorette after the show
    He just finished practicing basketball
I found out that Salina had a semi-pro basketball team, but that’s about all I found out.

It’s 10:05am and I’ve already fixed a guitar and watched an episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
I’d complain about not having a social life, but we were out until 3:30am last night

I guess it wasn’t that much that I had to say.
    I guess I forgot everything.
    You’ll hear from me.

  • Its been a long week
    My paycheck said 61 hours
Two big auctions and two shows this last week
Makes a person beg for more

    We’re now sponsored by Budweiser
    Bless their kind, gentle hearts

We’re getting ready to play this show at westloop
I heard there were supposed to be 3000 people
I think they had a couple extra zeros
Seems more like 30 when I drove by an hour ago

    Looking forward to the WRF
    Whiskey River Festival
Kade and Trevor will be song-swapping away
There’ll be just enogh of me thrown in the mix to piss somebody off

Looked at a drummer in Pfeifer yesterday
Trevor got a chance to finally meet and hear Mike
It doesn’t look like either will work for us in the long run, but Trail Ride is going to be a blast

    That’s it for now
Going to don my Top Gun sunglasses and go play on a trailer for free
    Oh, the lives we lead

  • Long time no blog

Got back from Great Bend today after making a screaming trip down there and then home on Friday, back to Great Bend for the auction on Saturday, and then up to Kansas City on Saturday night for Trevor’s birthday bash.

It was great to see Kade and him play again
Going to do it again this Saturday at the Whiskey River Festival

I still haven’t heard if we’re playing this Saturday afternoon at the pre-stampede party. Last I heard it was a go, but that was a while ago.

    Stay tuned
    You’ll hear from me

  • Well McClure’s Soloman, KS, show got posted on his site. We can all thank our friend Josh from www.reddirtscene.com for the orchestration. Rumor has it that Trevor and I might have a part in supporting the show.

Looks like the Trevor Burgess All-Stars will have a hell of a show on the 8th in the Gyp Hills. Trevor, Jim Billinger, Mike Kisner and I will be playing all your Red Dirt favorites. Don’t forget that it’s the hottest live stage show in America. I hope you have your tickets.

  • Getting ready to go to Kansas City tomorrow. Seems Trevor needs transportation. They said free beer if I mowed the lawn. You know, I think it was free beer as I mowed the lawn.

    You’ll hear from me.

  • Oklahoma
    Kansas
    Missouri
    Iowa
    Nebraska

We didn’t play in MO or IA
I’d never even been to more than three states in a week
I feel like a rock star now

Burgess and I are getting ready to buy a big-ass tour buss. Where we are going to find a big-ass tour bus within our collective price range of $135.50 is still a nagging question, but it will happen.

Tonganoxie was an absolute blast. Trevor and I were finally clicking on the same page. He’s getting over his throat problems and lasted until mid-Nympho.

Saturday we stopped at a Hy-Vee in Kansas City. I got laughed at for never hearing of such a grocery chain before. So I don’t get out much. I walked up to the counter with a twelve pack and a two-pound pizza.

I ate it all by myself / told my band mate to go to hell

Anyway, the girl behind the counter made me scan my own beer. It was absolutely hilarious at the time, but right now I don’t see the humor in it. I promised it would make the log, though.

We took our nuttiness to Lincoln last night to open for FortyTwenty.

    What a blast
    Packed room
    Interested crowd

The only problem I had was that I told the sound guy through the main system that my monitor was “hosed” and all he did was come up and stick his head in front of it and then give Trevor a thumbs-up.

    Goober.

I was kind of nervous playing bass in front of Lern Tilton, but he was cool about the fact that I’m not a real bass player. I guess I should stop saying that since I seem to now be a real bass player. I need to figure out how to be a real good bass player.

Lern gave me shit about Star Trek
I sent him a recording of my singing his song “Lowdown Dirty Drinking” in which I insert Star Trek in place of Monster Trucks.
He asked me, “Do you know that I hate Star Trek?”
I gave him a shot of scotch
He then told me he hated tequila more than Star Trek
What a shot of scotch had to do with Star Trek and tequila, I’m not quite sure
At one point in the night, he had no fewer than 9 shots at his feet
I could see the fear in Dave’s eyes

After the show, we went to Lern’s place for the after hours
    Lern makes the best eggs
He played a new song on his Martin D-15
He said Dave wouldn’t let him play it with FortyTwenty
    I don’t blame Dave

Well it’s been a long weekend. I think I’ll head out to Rustys for Sunday Service with pastorpetegile.com.

  • What a wild ride. Five in a row.
We played in Stillwater, OK, on Tuesday
We played in Salina, KS, last night
I’m playing at Bobby T’s tonight in Manhattan
We’re playing in Tonganoxie, KS, tomorrow night
We’re opening for FortyTwenty on Saturday in Lincoln, NE
I’ve never had this much fun or met so many new people

Come out to Bobby T’s tonight and bring your guitars.

14 shows this month and we don’t even have the full band going yet. I used to hear about people putting on 150 shows a year. That was when I was putting on 4 shows a year. I remember thinking, “gee…that’s like a show every other day.” So this is what it feels like.

Trevor and I should have the new band rolling sometime shortly after harvest is over. We figure that we could keep playing by ourselves and perhaps someday make it. We figure that if we team up we can take over the world. Here’s to never having a weekend off again.

Don’t forget about the Burgess-Traffas Biggity-Blam Red Dirt Americana Alt-Country and Texas Music Review every Wednesday night at Martini’s in Salina. We had a great crowd last night and they should only get better so come out and join in the fun.
